چکیده

Introduction The bright signal of fluid and blood can affect tumor detection in screening applications. Diffusion weighted EPI is now frequently employed to attenuate these signals and highlight tumors. Gradient pulses can also be added to unbalanced SSFP sequences to attenuate the signals with motion. It has been demonstrated that SSFP sequence is strongly sensitive to self-diffusion or other motions. However, the diffusion sensitive SSFP sequence is difficult to combine with other contrasts and with slow acquisition speed. Here, we implemented SSFP diffusion as a preparation sequence before the image acquisition to eliminate signals with fast diffusion. This preparation can be flexibly combined with any image acquisition and with faster acquisition speed.

Myocardial diffusion tensor imaging using diffusion-prepared SSFP

Background Diffusion tensor imaging of the myocardium is challenging due to the large bulk motion of the heart relative to the distance water diffuses. One solution is to use diffusion gradients on two consecutive heartbeats, with EPI to readout the stimulated echo [1]. The technique has not been widely adopted, primarily due to the long imaging times required to overcome the low SNR of the tec...

Diffusion-prepared segmented steady-state free precession: Application to 3D black-blood cardiovascular magnetic resonance of the thoracic aorta and carotid artery walls.

This work developed a three-dimensional (3D) diffusion-prepared segmented steady-steady free precession (DP-SSFP) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) sequence for black-blood (BB) thoracic aortic and carotid wall visualization. In 14 healthy volunteers, BB CMR of the thoracic aorta (n = 7) and carotid arteries (n = 7) was performed over 12 cm and 3 cm of transversal coverage, respectively, ...

Fetal MRI: An approach to practice: A review

MRI has been increasingly used for detailed visualization of the fetus in utero as well as pregnancy structures. Yet, the familiarity of radiologists and clinicians with fetal MRI is still limited. This article provides a practical approach to fetal MR imaging. Fetal MRI is an interactive scanning of the moving fetus owed to the use of fast sequences. Single-shot fast spin-echo (SSFSE) T2-weigh...

ACUT2E TSE-SSFP: a hybrid method for T2-weighted imaging of edema in the heart.

ACUT(2)E TSE-SSFP is a hybrid between steady state free precession (SSFP) and turbo spin echo (TSE) for bright-blood T2-weighted imaging with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) similar to dark-blood TSE. TSE-SSFP uses a segmented SSFP readout during diastole with 180 degrees pulses following a 90 degrees preparation. The 180 degrees refocusing pulses make TSE-SSFP sim...

Sensitivity of diffusion weighted steady state free precession to anisotropic diffusion.

Diffusion-weighted steady-state free precession (DW-SSFP) accumulates signal from multiple echoes over several TRs yielding a strong sensitivity to diffusion with short gradient durations and imaging times. Although the DW-SSFP signal is well characterized for isotropic, Gaussian diffusion, it is unclear how the DW-SSFP signal propagates in inhomogeneous media such as brain tissue. This article...
